Zinedine Zidane Defends Under-Fire Eden Hazard

Real Madrid superstar Eden Hazard has endured a difficult start to life in LaLiga following his €100 million move from Chelsea, but manager Zinedine Zidane has now leapt to his star man's defence.

Hazard joined Los Blancos on a mega-money deal in June after spending seven seasons with the Blues, for whom he scored 110 goals in 352 appearances and won two Premier League titles, two UEFA Europa League crowns, an FA Cup and a League Cup.

The Belgium international's pre-season preparations were marred, however, after he reportedly arrived in Madrid overweight and then suffered a spate of niggling injuries that ruled him out of the start of the campaign.

He eventually made his debut for the club as a substitute against Levante in the beginning of September but failed to make any real impact, and has delivered a string of disappointing performances for the LaLiga giants since.

Following criticism from sections of the media and the club's fans, Zidane has now leapt to the defence of his star man, whom he insists just needs time to settle.

"…He is an important player and we want more from him, but you have to be calm. I am not worried," the French tactician told AS.

"He will succeed here because he is very good. And that is not going to change. If we see it tomorrow, very well.

"The same thing happened to me (when Zidane was at Real as a player), and I was very calm. I knew it would work over time.

"It was worse when I arrived in Italy. It took me three months there. I know Hazard is going to be important. It will go ahead."

During his time with the Blues, Hazard won the 2013/14 Premier League Young Player of the Season, 2014/15 Premier League Player of the Season and 2018/19 Premier League Playmaker of the Season awards.
