Los Blancos had enquired about the 22-year-old's availability during the transfer window, but Zidane is said to have blocked the move, remaining adamant the club focus instead on completing a deal for Pogba.
Ajax reportedly placed a price tag of €50 million (R809 million) on the Dutchman's head, but that figure could rise if he improves on his return of last season, which saw him record 17 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
