While Ronaldo levelled matters for Al Nassr late on, it was one of the Saudi Pro League side's other new marquee signings who helped the five-time African champions take the lead.
After former Manchester United left-back Alex Telles handled the ball in the box in the 53rd minute, Zamalek's talismanic attacking midfielder Zizo stepped up to slot the ball past the 'keeper and open the scoring.
The nine-time Saudi champions ramped up the pressure after going behind, and with only four minutes of regulation time left, international football's all-time leading goalscorer once again stepped up at the decisive moment to find the back of the net and ensure Al Nassr's passage to the next round.
The result means that Zamalek have officially been knocked out of the competition, having finished behind Al Nassr and Al Shabab in their group.
Ronaldo and his teammates will now go up against another north African giant in Josef Zinnbauer-led Raja Athletic Club in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The Moroccan giants finished their group-stage campaign with a 100% record as the German tactician rounded off the round-robin leg of the competition with a triumph over Pitso Mosimane's Al Wahda side.
