The 15-time UEFA Champions League winners have announced that the 25-year-old has suffered an injury, after he was substituted off during Real's LALIGA win over Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday night.
"Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid's Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbappe, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored," the club said in a statement on their website.
The news follows Carlo Ancelotti's post-match remarks, in which he said the France international was "fine".
Mbappe is now expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks and, as a result, miss matches against Atletico Madrid, Lille and Real Valladolid.
The ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward has struck seven times since making his Los Blancos debut, but it has not been all smooth sailing for the Spanish champions.
With two draws in their opening seven games, Ancelotti's side find themselves second in LALIGA behind rivals Barcelona, who have won all six of their opening matches.
