Man Utd To Make Ronaldo 'Decision' After Cup Win

Man Utd To Make Ronaldo 'Decision' After Cup Win

Manchester United are reportedly set to make a significant decision on Cristiano Ronaldo following their Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle United on Sunday.

African Star Eyeing Link-Up With Ronaldo?

The Red Devils ended a six-year trophy drought at the weekend after beating the Magpies 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final, courtesy of a header from Casemiro and a goal from Marcus Rashford six minutes later.

Ronaldo, who parted ways with United in November, did not feature in any matches in the competition prior to his free-agent exit but could still be given a winner's medal by the club, according to the Daily Mirror.

The publication cites the English Football League's rule 20.2, which states that "in addition to the Cup, the Management Committee shall present thirty souvenirs to the winning Club in the Final Tie; and thirty souvenirs to the losing Club in the Final Tie. Additional souvenirs may be presented with the consent of the Management Committee but shall be at the cost of the requesting Club."

The Mirror points out that just 27 players featured in the Carabao Cup for the English giants this season, meaning the club could choose to give the Portuguese forward a medal.

While it is unclear as to whether United will decide to give Ronaldo a piece of silverware, the 38-year-old's unceremonious departure late last year could leave the club feeling hesitant about doing so.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner strongly criticised head coach Erik ten Hag in an explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan in the weeks before the termination of his contract.

At Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo has been in remarkable goalscoring form, having struck eight times in his first six appearances across all competitions.
