The 25-year-old recently joined Los Blancos as a free agent before being unveiled in front of about 80 000 fans at the famous Santiago Bernabeu.
Later, Mbappe was pictured meeting his new teammates and in conversation with Ancelotti, who has since discussed what he told the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner once his arrival in Madrid was confirmed.
"Two things: First, I gave him a warm welcome, because the reception from Real Madrid and the fans was exceptional," he said, according to ESPN.
"Second, I told him to rest, to go on vacation because it's a very long season for players."
Ancelotti also talked about where the former Paris Saint-Germain is most likely to feature for Real, with Vinicius Junior having long been recognised as the team's leading left winger.
"Honestly, I haven't thought about it," he responded.
"Fitting Mbappe in the team won't be a problem. It's important to remember what he said: He'll adapt to the team. The key is that each player has to contribute talent and quality in service to the team.
"Sometimes you can play on the left, sometimes you can play in the middle.
