PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands star Cody Gakpo has made a massive admission about almost joining Manchester United this past off-season after talks with Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch international was one of the Red Devils' main targets in the latest transfer window as Ten Hag looked to overhaul the United squad.
Having bought Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Antony, it seems that the 52-year-old tactician was eager to make Gakpo the club's fourth acquisition from the Eredivisie, and while the transfer did not materialise, the 23-year-old has now spoken about how close he was to making the move to Old Trafford.
"I was close to leaving, I spoke to Erik ten Hag a few times at Manchester United," Gakpo told The Times.
"In the end, the deal didn't go through, which was a shame, for me and my development, and because Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, but also for PSV because to transfer a player to Manchester United is a good thing for the club.
"It ended about a week before the end of the transfer window and in that week I had to decide if I would go to Leeds [United] or Southampton.
"In the end, I stayed, but it was a stressful period."
Having already scored an impressive 13 goals and assisted a further 11 strikes in just 18 matches in all competitions for PSV so far this season, there will no doubt be interest in Gakpo's services once again in the January window, and the attacker admitted that if the opportunity to move to England presents itself once again, he might just pounce.

"I always said if I stay here [at PSV], it's my childhood club. It's not a punishment," he added.
"I like being here, I want to win trophies here and do my best for the club.
"But if I got the chance to go to the Premier League or something, of course, I would have to consider that option."
