Despite Manchester United signing five players in the recent transfer window, it is claimed that none of them were among Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's four initial targets.

Despite the negativity surrounding the Red Devils, it could be argued that the team is stronger after the four additions – Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri, while an agreement is in place for Amad Diallo to join in January – that were confirmed before the window slammed shut.
Solskjaer, however, might be disappointed with the way the club handled the transfer window, with ESPN reporting that the board failed to land any of his four main targets.

The Norwegian was said to be left frustrated that none of the players he wanted were signed by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and company, starting with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who was the manager's priority signing.
United's pursuit of the 20-year-old England international was well documented throughout the window, but it turned out to be no more than a chase. BVB would not budge on their asking price for Sancho, and held firm in their stance right up until the end of the window.

Another reported primary target was Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, who ended up signing a new deal at his club, as was RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, who also signed a new contract in Germany, and Nathan Ake, who joined rivals Manchester City.
