Manchester United may have endured a frustrating transfer window last time out, but reports suggest that they will go big in the long term.
Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho was their top target during the latest window, but the Red Devils would not meet the German club's hefty asking price of £108 million (R2.2 billion).
Sancho is not the only player on United's radar though, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Premier League giants have retained a strong interest in striker Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian hitman, whom Solskjaer coach during his time in charge of Molde, is said to have a £68 million (R1.4 billion) release clause in his contract that will be valid in the 2022 off-season transfer window.
With United having opted to move to sign free agent Edinson Cavani earlier this month, the Uruguayan is understood to be a short-term solution as they plot new arrivals.
In total, it is said that the Red Devils will have to splash out £176 million (R3.7 billion) for Dortmund's attacking duo should they be determined to land their targets.
Despite Haaland's agent being Mino Raiola, who is believed to have a tense relationship with the Manchester club, manager Solskjaer is said to still have a strong bond with the striker.
Haaland had been linked with a switch to United prior to his arrival at Dortmund, but a move failed to materialise as Solskjaer refused to meet Raiola's financial demands, which resulted in the player heading from RB Salzburg to the Bundesliga in January.
