As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have offered club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy the opportunity to join Erik ten Hag's coaching staff.
The Dutchman has been strongly linked with the Burnley job following Vincent Kompany's recent move to Bayern Munich.
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf claims the former Netherlands international is close to succeeding the Belgian at the Clarets, who will be back in the EFL Championship next season.
Van Nistelrooy, 47, has been without work since leaving PSV Eindhoven in March last year after 50 matches in charge of the club's senior team.
The Express, meanwhile, reports that United's recruiting of the ex-striker could spell the end of Benni McCarthy's time at Old Trafford.
The South African's contract in England reportedly expires at the end of this month, although it has been claimed Ten Hag has requested the board give the South African coach a renewed deal.
As things stand, it is said McCarthy has not yet been offered new terms at the Red Devils.
