Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood was once reportedly instructed to tone down his criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo before the pair later became teammates.
Man Utd Star Warned To Stop Mocking Opponents
In 2021, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner made a stunning return to the Red Devils after spending 12 years away from the club, during which he represented Real Madrid and Juventus.
Some young stars in the United dressing room would have been thrilled by Ronaldo's arrival, but perhaps not Greenwood, who was believed to be a harsh critic of the forward before becoming his teammate.
According to The Athletic, while coming through the ranks at the English giants, Greenwood once openly referred to Ronaldo's career as "dead" before being told to "tone down his language".
This instruction was believed to have come from United chiefs who thought the then-youth academy star's words displayed a lack of maturity.
The left-footed youngster's comments were reportedly made when Ronaldo was still at Los Blancos, where he ended his career in Spain by winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.
Years later, Greenwood shared a locker room with the Portuguese superstar, with rumours during their time together as colleagues suggesting they did not always see eye to eye.
Ronaldo would reportedly grow frustrated with the English starlet's inclination to shoot when near the goal instead of pass, but their time as teammates was cut short when Greenwood was arrested in January 2022.
