The 22-year-old defender returned to United's starting line-up for the first time in 10 months on Tuesday night following a lengthy injury, and managed to help keep the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at bay.
Tuanzebe, born in DR Congo, made a few last-ditch challenges on Mbappe that caught the attention of fans as well as his teammates, and De Gea in particular.
Speaking after their win in Paris, the Spanish shot-stopper said that the centre-back showed what he was capable of against the French giants.
"He has been unbelievable today," De Gea said of Tuanzebe to MUTV.
"He played against two of the best players in the world in Neymar and Mbappe so he did really, really well. I am really happy for him.
"He has been in difficult moments with the injuries, but now he has shown today that he is capable of playing in big games."
