The 31-year-old came off with an ankle injury in PSG's narrow 4-3 Ligue 1 win over Lille two weeks ago and having missed the team's next two league matches, it was confirmed on Monday night that fans will not see Neymar for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign, with the skilful attacker set to have surgery as he looks at a four-month spell on the sidelines.
French 1998 FIFA World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry has since come out with a surprising statement, claiming that the former Barcelona man's absence should be welcomed because PSG are a more balanced team without him, while he also lambasted Les Parisiens manager Christophe Galtier for not dropping Brazil's all-time top goalscorer sooner.
"It's an incredible chance for Christophe Galtier because in any case he should have had the courage, at one time or another, to release Neymar," the former Bordeaux and Marseille striker told RMC Sport.
"It was the only solution. I think this team is much more balanced with five behind and two up front. It's lucky for Christophe Galtier that Neymar is injured."
Despite enjoying his most productive PSG season in terms of goals and assists, Neymar may have already played his final match for Les Parisiens as the club are reportedly open to selling football's most expensive player ever.
