The 26-year-old joined Ligue 1 side OGC Nice from Liverpool during the latest transfer window, and has already scored more league goals than in his previous two seasons combined.
Now, Roberto Mancini, his former coach at Manchester City, has commented on the striker's top form.
"He is doing fantastic," Mancini told L'Equipe.
"Like a player and a boy. In the good and the bad. He is a special player for me, for everything that he does on the pitch and off of it. I respect him a lot.
"I hope that he will understand that he has one chance to become a player at the very top level again…
"He needs to score at least 20 goals this season. But Mario must stop taking his shirt off when he scores. For him, scoring should be normal."
Balotelli's controversial agent Mino Raiola has insisted his client could be among the top four strikers in the world if he wants to be.
"He has started very well in France, now he needs to continue like that," Raiola told Corriere dello Sport.
"We are both more and more satisfied to have chosen Nice.
"2017 could be the year of Balotelli. When he is at 100%, he is among the best four forwards in the world."
