The Italian forward was making his third league start for Nice, as they looked to reclaim top spot in the French top flight.
Balotelli had a lasting impact on the game as he scored the winning goal in the 86th minute, which was his fourth league goal and sixth goal in all competitions.
However, the striker's night did not end there, as he picked up two yellow cards in the space of three minutes and received his marching orders.
The 25-year-old, who was snubbed for the Italy squad, will now miss Nice's next league encounter against Nantes after the international break.
Nice have now reclaimed top spot in Ligue 1, one point ahead of champions Paris Saint-Germain.
