Benzema Breaks Ronaldo's Record In Farewell Game

Benzema Breaks Ronaldo's Record In Farewell Game

Real Madrid 1-1 Athletic Bilbao

Real Madrid finished the season in second place after drawing 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening.

Karim Benzema was given a start in his final game for the club, while Vinicius Junior was also back in the side while the out-going Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard were named on the bench.

The visitors were afforded the chance to break the deadlock in the 10th minute after being awarded a penalty for handball on Toni Kroos, however Mikel Vesga's spot-kick was saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Los Blancos struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances in the first half, while Bilbao were once again thwarted by the heroics of Courtois.

Bilbao got the breakthrough four minutes after the halftime break courtesy of goal from Oihan Sancet, who smashed home from close range after Courtois saved Ander Herrera's strike.

Los Blancos were awarded a penalty of their own in the 74th minute, which allowed Benzema to step up and score in his final game for the club.

In doing so, Benzema broke Cristiano Ronaldo's record for the player with the most goals against Bilbao in LaLiga history with 18.

Celta Vigo 2-1 Barcelona

LaLiga champions FC Barcelona suffered a 2-1 defeat to Celta Vigo in their final game of the season.

There was no place in the squad for the out-going Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who got their final send offs at the Camp Nou last weekend.

Xavi Hernandez still went with a strong side as top scorer Robert Lewandowski led the attack alongside Ferran Torres and Raphinha.

However, the opening goal fell to the home side in the 42nd minute when Gabri Vega latched onto a pass from Haris Seferovic before rifling the ball beyond Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The situation got worse for the champions in the second half, with Veiga completing his brace in the 65th minute by turning home Carles Perez's cross.

Barcelona did pull a goal back through substitute Ansu Fati in the 79th minute by nodding home a cross from Ousmane Dembele, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Celta held for the win save their top-flight status.

Villarreal 2-2 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid had to settle for third spot following a 2-2 draw against Villarreal.

Nico Jackson opened the scoring for the Yellow Submarine in the ninth minute with his 12th goal of the season.

Angel Correa went on to grab a brace to turn the game around for Atletico, with Antoine Griezmann picking up the assists for both goals.

Atletico were seemingly headed for the win and second spot until Jorge Pascual netted the equaliser for Villarreal in the 92nd minute.

Real Mallorca 3-0 Rayo Vallecano

Real Sociedad 2-1 Sevilla

Osasuna 2-1 Girona

Real Betis 1-1 Valencia

Real Valladolid 0-0 Getafe
