Barcelona Transfer News: Seven Players Up For Sale

Barcelona Transfer News: Seven Players Up For Sale

It has been claimed that financially-strapped Barcelona have placed seven players on the transfer list, including their most expensive signing in history.

Big changes are expected at the Catalan giants ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, with the club having already announced the arrivals of three players in the form of Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Emerson Royal.

While the departing Manchester City duo left the Premier League champions as free agents after running down their deals, Emerson returned to Barca from Real Betis after the club exercised its buyback option on the 22-year-old Brazilian right-back for a reported fee of €9 million (R148 million).

Although one or two more players are likely to arrive in this transfer window, the Blaugrana's next focus could be on selling a number of a players to decrease their wage budget, which is one of the biggest in world football.

According to Goal, Brazil playmaker Philippe Coutinho – the most expensive player in the club's history – has been put up for sale, as has 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti and Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic, who did not feature much in his debut season at the Camp Nou under Ronald Koeman.

Barcelona could also listen to offers for left-back Junior Firpo, midfielder Matheus Fernandes and Denmark international Martin Braithwaite. It is claimed the aforementioned players will only be kept at the club if they accept significant pay cuts.

Back-up goalkeeper Neto is another who is tipped to move on before the start of next season, while it has also been suggested that there are more first-team players who could be at risk of being sold should appropriate offers for them arrive.

Pep Linked With £100m Signing

Only five players – Lionel Messi, Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong – are reportedly considered completely indispensable by the club. There was no mention of first-choice shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but the German is believed to be set to stay at Barcelona.

After there was uncertainty around Koeman's future amid speculation linking the club with Xavi Hernandez, new president Joan Laporta confirmed last week that the Dutch manager will still be in charge of the Spanish giants next season
