It seems that Los Blancos are not prepared to meet Manchester United's asking price for De Gea and are prepared to snatch him on a free next summer.
Real reportedly offered De Gea €5 million as compensation for not renewing his contract, which expires in 2016.
Meanwhile, they identified Espanyol shot-stopper Casilla as their new man. Los Blancos have agreed a deal for the 28-year-old, with the fee believed to be around €6 million.
Espanyol announced the agreement via their official website and social media channels.

The post translates to: "Agreement between Espanyol and Real Madrid for the transfer of Kiko Casilla."
Marca claim Real are prepared to enter the season with Keylor Navas as first choice goalkeeper and Casilla as second choice.
Over 70 percent of the club's fans believe Navas can do the job as first-choice keeper, and the club shouldn't rush into signing De Gea this season.
