The Ivorian striker left The Blues at the end of the 2014/2015 season, after his one-year contract came to an end.
However, Drogba has now decided to ply his trade in Major League Soccer with the Canadian-based outfit.
The 37-year-old will join up with the Montreal squad once he receives his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and his Canadian work permit.
"It's an honour to welcome Didier Drogba to the Impact," Impact President Joey Saputo told the club's official website.
"From the first conversation I had with him, I felt that he really wanted to play in Montreal. This is one of the biggest days in club history and his arrival to the club will be beneficial in every aspect."
Drogba is the latest start to join the MLS, following the arrivals of Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard this season.
