Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has explained why he sold Robin Van Persie, who will pocket £47 million (R920m) from his move.

The Dutch striker left the Red Devils to join Fenerbahce for £4.7 million (R92m) and Van Gaal hinted that Van Persie not contributing enough goals as being one of the reasons why he sanctioned the move.
"That is also a process. It's what we have experienced in the whole season with each other," he told the Mirror.
"You have to oversee all the aspects. People have written that Van Persie is my favourite player and that I protect him and, yes, maybe I have done that.
"But in the end you always have to evaluate which players have contributed to our fourth place, which players a little bit and which players made no contribution, and then you make decisions, but you make decisions on facts and not on other things.
"There is also the choice for Wayne Rooney."
Van Persie reportedly pocketed a £6 million (R117m) pay off from United, while picking up another £4 million (R78m) signing on fee, as reported by the Dailystar.

Thanks to his to his £240 000-a-week (R4.7m) salary over three years, the 31-year-old could earn a potential £47 million (R920m) from his move to Turkey.
