The Gunners have only signed Petr Cech so far and he will undoubtedly improve their line-up but it remains questionable whether his transfer is enough to compete for the title.
Wenger has once again confirmed he will only become active in the market, if he can add the right player to his squad.
Latest reports by Spanish publication Sport claim the Frenchman requested the signing of FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets.
The holding miefielder would add world-class talent to a position which is only really covered by Francois Coquelin, but it is also claimed that Barcelona would be reluctant to sell – particularly due to their current transfer ban.
Another player, continuously linked with a move to the Emirates stadium is Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
Wenger is reportedly willing to spend £40.5 million on the French forward after having previously seen a £30.3 million offer turned down, according to English media.
On Tuesday, Benzema posted a cryptic Instagram post, which had Gunnners' fans on red alert. The picture showed Benzema in a private plane with a message accompanied that translated to "the past is in the past".
