Players from the likes of Liverpool and Flamengo will be hoping to get their hands on the coveted Golden Ball this year, but in four of the past five years, the winner of the award hailed from Real, with Los Blancos claiming the tournament title on each occasion.
Wales international Gareth Bale took home the 2018 crown to keep the award in the Madrid family, after teammates Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo had won it in 2017 and 2016, respectively, while Sergio Ramos also claimed the honour in 2014.

FC Barcelona star Luis Suarez broke the chain in 2015 following the Catalan giants' triumphant campaign, and is one of only two players from the club to have claimed the award, after two-time winner Lionel Messi.
Prior to Suarez's crowning, the Argentine had won the Golden Ball in both 2009 and 2011, and the 32-year-old remains the only player to have taken the award home on more than one occasion.

Ex-Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery won the coveted prize in 2013 after Cassio had done so the year before with Brazilian giants Corinthians, while Samuel Eto'o remains the only African winner after emerging above his peers during the 2010 edition of the competition.
