Former FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned club legend Xavi Hernandez against taking the head coaching role and working under the leadership of the current board at the Camp Nou.
Laporta, 58, led Blaugrana through a very successful period during his reign from June 2003 to June 2010, when the Catalan giants won two UEFA Champions League trophies, four LaLiga titles, one Copa Del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup.
Although the club has continued to win silverware since, the quality of football and the transfer policy at the Camp Nou has faltered over the past few seasons, with massive signings such as Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele failing to have the desired impact.
"If I were Xavi (Hernandez), I'd never come with this board," Laporta told Spanish publication Marca.
The politician, who is believed to be interested in running in Barca's upcoming presidential election, is also hopeful six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi extends his stay in Catalunya.
"I hope that he's (Messi's) there in 2021, but I'm scared that a bad decision from the board could cause an irreversible decision," he added.
