While many of Europe's big-name footballers make a move to Major League Soccer at the end of their careers, the league's MVP and leading goalscorer last season could be set to make a move in the opposite direction after being linked with a sensational deal with FC Barcelona.
The Mexico international has since been strongly linked with a return to Europe, and LaLiga giants Barcelona have emerged as surprise favourites to land his signature.
In an interview with Colombia's W Radio, former Barca academy graduate Jonathan dos Santos, who is an international teammate of Vela's, seemingly confirmed that the 30-year-old has received an offer from the Catalan giants.
"I don't know what he's going to do, honestly, he's very happy in Los Angeles with his team. He has done a spectacular season.
"Whatever is best for him, I will be happy. It is a unique opportunity when Barcelona is looking for you, it is the best team in the world and hopefully, as a Mexican, you can make it."
Vela, who turns 31 in March 2020, joined Los Angeles FC from Sociedad in 2018, and has scored 53 goals in 67 appearances for the club since.
