A former FC Barcelona director has revealed he wanted to sign Kylian Mbappe a few years ago, but the coaches decided to sign another player instead.
The French forward was linked with a number of Europe's top clubs when he broke out at AS Monaco, who also boasted the likes of Bernardo Silva and Fabinho.
Mbappe, however, went on to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 in a deal reportedly worth €180million, teaming up with Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

However, things could have turned out differently if Barcelona signed Mbappe instead of his countryman Ousmane Dembele.
"If I had been in charge, Mbappe would have played for Barca", as per quotes from El Chiringuito, via Diario Sport.
"I moved for Mbappe. He could have come to Barca. We didn't specify a price, but he would have gone for €100m.
"However, the coaches told us they wanted Ousmane Dembele because of the other players we had."
Mbappe is currently PSG's all-time leading scorer with 251 goals in 299 matches.
However, this is expected to be Mbappe's final season in the French capital as he is reportedly expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next season.
