FC Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert is reportedly a surprise candidate to replace embattled head coach Quique Setien should the club pull the plug on him at end of the season.
Following the Blaugrana's disappointing LaLiga title defence as Real Madrid were crowned champions for the 34th time last week, Setien's future at the Camp Nou seems to be hanging by a thread.
According to 90min.com, the majority of the squad want ex-Netherlands superstar Kluivert to take over the reins at the Catalan giants.
This could be a sensible move for the club as the 44-year-old has been the academy director since July 2019 and has a strong relationship with the senior players, including Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, and Sergio Busquets.
He has also been hugely influential in the growth and development of 17-year-old sensation Ansu Fati, and has a wide range of coaching experience, including roles at international level with Cameroon and Holland and enjoying assistant coaching stints with FC Twente U21 and NEC Nijmegen.
However, despite having the support of the players, the final decision will come down to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu, and with Xavi Hernandez also being strongly linked with the top job at the LaLiga giants, this decision could have a long-lasting impact on the future of the club.
