While Barcelona's financial struggles have been well documented, their president has now revealed they are capable of signing one of Spain's stars of the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

The Blaugrana's finances have been in disarray for a number of years now. Since they were unable to hand Lionel Messi a contract extension in 2021, the LALIGA giants have seemingly struggled to get important business done consistently.
The latest example seems to be that of Nico Williams. The 21-year-old had an impressive breakout season with Athletic Club this past season, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions.
He has taken this form into the EUROs, where his performances have played a major role in helping La Roja reach the semi-finals.

This form has also attracted interest from all across Europe for his services. Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal are believed to be keen, but it is reported that if Williams is to leave Athletic, he would prefer to move to Barca.
The Catalan giants are said to have identified the Pamplona native as a top priority, but have been rumoured to be struggling to come up with the mooted €58 million (R1.1 billion) needed to trigger his release clause.
Laporta has now set the record straight regarding the club's ability to sign the budding Spanish superstar.

"It is Nico's responsibility. We are working on the operations that [Hansi] Flick asks of us. Today we can afford to sign Nico Williams. We can deal with a signing like Nico's," the 62-year-old executive told Catalunya Radio.
