Despite having already booked his flight to join FC Barcelona, an African star saw his move to the Catalan giants sensationally fall through at the last minute on Thursday.
DR Congo striker Cedric Bakambu, who once held the record for being the most expensive African player of all time, has revealed that he was about to join Barca this week before seeing the deal fall through.
Bakambu's tweet is supported by Spanish publication Marca, who reported that the forward, who plays for Chinese side Beijing Guoan, had already arrived in Hong Kong ahead of his flight to Barcelona when the transfer was cancelled.
According to the reports, upon landing in Hong Kong, the former Villarreal star received a call from Barca director of football Eric Abidal, who informed him that the club's offer had been withdrawn.
Bakambu is the latest Barcelona target not to make the move, after the club reportedly failed in its bid to lure Spain striker Rodrigo from Valencia earlier this week.
