FA Cup Report: Exeter City 2-2 Liverpool 8 January 2016

FA Cup Result: Exeter 2-2 Liverpool Date: 8 January 2016 Venue: St James' Park Liverpool are set to host an FA Cup replay after drawing 2-2 with Exeter City in the Third Round on Friday night. The League Two outfit were out of the gates in a flash as they took the lead in only the ninth minute. Josh Read made a terrific run down the right flank before sending a cross towards Tom Nichols who beat his marker Connor Randall to slide home the finish. Jurgen Klopp's charges responded almost immediately as they levelled matters in the 12th minute. Christian Benteke won the ball in the area and tried to lay it off. No one got on the end of it but Jordan Tillson inexplicably prodded the ball on for Jerome Sinclair to coolly finish. Exeter had a real chance to restore their lead in the 30th minute. A wicked deflection saw a ball into the Liverpool box fall favourably for David Noble, but he lacked composure and hit his shot over from just eight yards out. The home team had another good opportunity to take the lead just before the break. Lee Holmes produced an excellent cross that picked out an unmarked Christian Ribeiro, but his headed effort went wide. The Grecians found their second goal in first-half stoppage time thanks to some poor goalkeeping. A corner kick from Holmes confused Adam Bogdan who watched the ball go all the way through and into the back of his net. However, the Reds made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute. Some good build-up play from Bradley Smith, Benteke and Chirivella resulted in Oluwaseyi Ojo receiving the ball out wide. He crossed it and saw it only partially cleared, falling for Brad Smith to smash into the back of the net.
