English FA Cup
Full Time: Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Liverpool
Date: 08 April 2015
Venue: Ewood Park
A single goal from Philippe Coutinho saw Liverpool into the next round of the FA Cup after beating Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in a quarterfinal match at Ewood Park on Wednesday night.
Liverpool started the better side and had the first shot on goal in the fifth minute when Joe Allen met a Daniel Sturridge cross, but he volleyed inches wide from just inside the box.
Sturridge came close to the opening goal in the 20th minute when he let rip with a thunderbolt from 22-yards, but his effort was brilliantly tipped over the crossbar by the keeper.
Seven minutes later the Reds suffered a bit of a set-back when Mamadou Sakho had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Kolo Toure.
The next effort on goal came in the 33rd minute when Glen Johnson tried his luck from long range, but saw his effort well-saved by the Blackburn keeper.
The half ended 0-0.
Blackburn came out the better side in the second half and came close to finding the back of the net two minutes after the restart when a swerving shot from Tom Cairney was magnificently touched around the post by Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool took control of the game after that and finally made their pressure tell in the 70th minute when a lovely passing move between Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho resulted in the latter firing home from close range, 1-0.
Blackburn tried to find their way back into the game, but Liverpool held on for the win and place in the semifinals of the FA Cup.
