UEFA Europa League Result: Tottenham 4-1 Monaco Date: 10 December 2015 Venue: White Hart Lane Tottenham Hotspur claimed top spot in Group J of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night with a 4-1 trouncing of Monaco. Spurs burst into motion from the get-go as they netted the first goal in the second minute. Ben Davies won the ball back on the left before picking out Clinton N'Jie who played it back for the defender to direct a pass to Erik Lamela. The Argentine placed his shot into the far corner to open the scoring. In the 15th minute Lamela completed his brace as the hosts took control of the clash. He ran forward on what appeared to be a tame attack, but he tried his luck from the edge of the box and found the back of the net with a weak shot thanks to Danijel Subasic who mistimed his jump and let the ball through underneath him. Monaco responded in the 33rd minute and almost got what they were looking for. Pasalic was put in a good position to strike from the top of the area. His shot deflected and beat Hugo Lloris but it went just over the bar. The result was put to bed early in the game as Lamela slotted his third of the night in the 37th minute. Heung-Min Son provided the telling pass and Lamela rifled home at the near post to make it 3-0. The visitors managed to pull one back just past the hour mark when Stephan El Shaarawy produced a superb strike that curled past Lloris and nestled in the back of the net at the far post. However, the three-goal cushion was restored in the 77th minute. Some poor defending from Echiejile allowed the ball to find its way to Tom Carroll at the byline. He beat the defender and squeezed a shot past the struggling Subasic to complete the rout.
