UEFA Europa League Report: Midtjylland 2-1 Manchester United 18 February 2016

UEFA Europa League Result: Midtjylland 2-1 Manchester United Date: 18 February 2016 Venue: MCH Arena Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League last 32 clash on Thursday. The travelers had a great chance to score the first goal in the 21st minute when a corner kick from Juan Mata picked out Chris Smalling at the far post. However, the defender headed across goal with no one there to get on the end of it, instead of burying it in the back of the net. United nearly conceded in the 36th minute, but moments later they took the lead. Lingard played a ball in from the right and found Memphis Depay who had to show off some acrobatic skills to control it and finish from close range. However, a minute before the break the hosts were back level. Michael Carrick was sloppy with a pass, allowing Pione Sisto to come away with the ball and drive towards the defence before placing a terrific shot past goalkeeper Sergio Romero. The Red Devils came within inches of restoring their lead just shy off the hour mark when Herrera's cross found Lingard at the far post. He hit a strong half-volley but saw his effort rattle the woodwork. At the other end of the pitch Romero pulled off a sensational save to keep the scores level. A cross found the head of Ebere Onuachu who sent his attempt back across the goalkeeper and towards the goal, but Romero somehow changed direction in time to palm it away. In the 77th minute the hosts produced the winning goal. Substitute Onuachu beat Mata's poor tackle before sending a venomous shot in at the near post with Romero caught in the wrong position.
