UEFA Europa League Result: Manchester United 1-0 Zorya Lugansk Date: 29 September 2016 Venue: Old Trafford Manchester United edged out Zorya Lugansk 1-0 in their UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday night. The visitors had the first two shots at goal. The first was blocked and cut back by Petryak for Ljubenovic to fire over the hosts' bar. In the 19th minute it was the Red Devils who came close to scoring the opener. Zlatan Ibrahimovic had room to shoot from 25 yards out and saw his effort deflected behind for a corner. Juan Mata swung in the corner kick and Paul Pogba flicked it on, only for Marcus Rashford to hit the woodwork. Shortly before the interval Jose Mourinho's men had three chances to break the deadlock. Jesse Lingard directed a header into a Zorya defender, before Mata found Ibrahimovic with a delivery from the left. The Swede looked set to score but Forster made a terrific interception. A corner kick then found Marouane Fellaini, but his header bounced over the bar. Five minutes into the second half Zorya threatened to claim first blood. Karavayev marauded down the right and whipped in a great ball for Ljubenovic, but he couldn't make contact. The first goal finally arrived in the 69th minute as Ibrahimovic opened his account. A scuffed shot from Wayne Rooney looped into the air but was pounced on by the Swedish striker who headed home from close range. United came close to netting a second in the last few minutes when a corner kick from Rooney was headed narrowly over the bar by Fellani but they had to settle for a 1-0 win.
