The 26-year-old has continued his rich goalscoring form for OGC Nice, but could not prevent his side from losing 5-2 to Krasnodar in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
The Italian brought his side back into the game, scoring his team's first goal of the night from outside the box just before half-time to make the scoreline 2-1, but had to be taken off at the break after he was seen retching on the pitch.
His coach Lucien Favre has explained that the Italian was suffering from flu and a sore throat.
"He has a flu problem. It was no longer going," the Nice boss told the club's official website.
"He already asked to leave after 25 minutes, but then after a somewhat complicated period, he told us it was going a little better.
"We tried to keep him another 5-10 minutes (after half-time), but he had a sore throat, it was no longer possible. The doctor will explain the symptoms better than me.
"However, we cannot hide behind the excuse of its release, we were also in trouble when he was with us."
