The hosts surged ahead in the ninth minute as Malyshev lost possession sloppily, giving it to Kevin Gameiro who brushed past and coolly slotted into the back of the net. Shakhtar came back into the game just before the break when Marlos came inside to play a terrific pass for Eduardo who made no mistake as he made it 1-1. Two minutes into the second half the Sevilla lead was restored. Banega created the chance as he made room on the right flank to pass towards Gameiro who beat Pyatov and passed into the open net. Sevilla found their third just shy of the hour mark. Vitolo made the hard yards out on the left before finding Mariano who produced a sensational strike to bulge the visitors' net for a 3-1 lead. The hosts survived a big scare when Srna delivered a great cross from the right that found Eduardo, but his headed effort went narrowly past the post and Sevilla held on for the victory.
