England Secure Top Spot In Group C

England Secure Top Spot In Group C

England 0-0 Slovenia

England rounded their Group C campaign with a goalless draw against Slovenia at RheinEnergieStadion.

England manager Gareth Southgate named a more attacking side compared to the draw against Denmark, as Conor Gallagher took the place of Trent Alexander-Arnold, the only change, with Harry Kane supported also by Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.

The sides were evenly matched in the early stages and the same picture remained of Slovenia holding their shape deep in their own half and the Three Lions went to the break needing new ideas to break the lines.

Southgate brought the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer in the second stanza but they still lacked creativity and Slovenia were happy to settle for a draw.

The Three Lions topped the group en route to the knockout stages with five points while a point was enough for Slovenia to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams with three points in third spot.

Denmark 0-0 Serbia

Denmark made it through to the knockout stages in spite of a goalless draw against Serbia at Allianz Arena.

Christian Eriksen set a new Denmark record of 133 caps, as he continued to support the attack consisting of Rasmus Hojlund,  Jonas Wind and Joakim Maehle.

The Danes had the most chances in the first stanza, as they pinned Serbia in their own half but they were repelled a few times by goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic.

The game got more tense from the break as both sides looked to get an early advantage but nothing was giving.

Aleksandar Mitrovic almost broke the deadlock for Serbia in the closing stages after getting space to aim a curl but his effort dragged just wide.

Kasper Hjulmand's charges finished second in Group C, equal on points with third-placed Slovenia on three points and went through to the round of 16.

The Eagles, however, crashed out of the tournament after finishing bottom of the group with two points.
