From Group A, hosts Germany cemented their spot among the final 16 after picking up seven points from their three matches. Die Mannschaft looked to be advancing with six points until a late goal from Niclas Fullkrug secured a draw with Switzerland on Sunday, with the Swiss also heading for the next round.
Monday night, meanwhile, saw Spain and Italy advance from Group B. The former have become the first team to progress with three victories in their three group games, while Italy finished second after a 1-1 draw with Croatia. The 2021 champions struck in the 98th minute to not only guarantee their place in the round of 16, but also send Luka Modric and his teammates home.
Gareth Southgate's England will be in the next round after Albania's 1-0 loss to Spain on Monday means that, if they finish third in Group C, their four points will be enough to see them advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
The Three Lions will go up against Slovenia on Tuesday night in their final group game.
From Group D, both the Netherlands and France will be moving on to the final 16 despite both still having one more match to play, while Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal have qualified from Group F.
