Salah Breaks 2 Records As Liverpool Put SEVEN Past Man Utd

Salah Breaks 2 Records As Liverpool Put SEVEN Past Man Utd

Liverpool put on a rampant display as they thrashed arch-rivals Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League

Result: Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United

Date: 05 March 2023

Venue: Anfield

The Red Devils were boosted by the return of defenders Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw, as Erik ten Hag went with the same starting line-up from the Carabao Cup final seven days ago.

Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, recalled Andrew Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Cody Gakpo following the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers during the week.

The hosts dominated early on, but the game's first meaningful chance fell to the visitors when Antony cut inside before unleashing a curling strike that was saved by Alisson Becker.

Liverpool had a couple chances of their own as Harvey Elliot volleyed over the crossbar on 18 minutes, before Lisandro Martinez popped up with block to deny Darwin Nunez in the six-yard area.

United went agonsingly close to taking the lead on 26 minutes when Diogo Dalot's superb cross found Bruno Fernandes, who sent his diving header inches wide of the upright.

The visitors were made to rue that miss as Liverpool took the lead just before the break, with Gakpo cutting inside of Varane before curling into the far corner for his third league goal.

Liverpool went on to bag a second goal two minutes after the break when United's failure to clear allowed Elliot to pick out Nunez for the close-range header.

It got better for the Reds on 50 minutes when a swift counter-attack ended with Salah evading Martinez before playing in Gakpo, who lobbed De Gea from a tight angle.

Ten Hag responded with a double change for the final 25 minutes as Wout Weghorst and Fred made way Alejandro Garnacho and Scott McTominay.

However, the changes made no desired impact as the Reds went on to bag a fourth goal on 66 minutes when a clearance deflected into the path of Salah, who volleyed the ball beyond De Gea for his ninth goal against United, which is new record for the club.

Liverpool went on to bag a fifth goal in with 15 minutes to play as Henderson picked out an un-marked Nunez, who guided a header into the far corner as United went to sleep at the back.

There would be more celebration at Anfield as Salah bagged his second and Liverpool's sixth goal with an instinctive finish from three yards to wrap up a memorable win.

With that goal, Salah became Liverpool's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League with 129 goals, surpassing legend Robbie Fowler.

Roberto Firmino, who is expected to leave at the end of the season, rounded off the scoring on 88 minutes after collecting a pass from Salah before firing past De Gea.
