The Red Devils have struggled for goals this season, with striker Rasmus Hojlund netting just three goals in 28 league appearances while Joshua Zirkzee has also netted three times in 32 matches.
As a result, United are looking for a recognised number nine next season and the latest reports have linked the club with Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
The Daily Star has reported the Red Devils are now considering a surprise swap deal that will see Rashford stay at Villa Park permanently while Watkins will move to Old Trafford.
Watkins has bagged 15 league goals this season but has found himself on the bench in both legs against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Former United striker Teddy Sheringham feels Rashford will not be heading back to Old Trafford.
“I don’t think there’s a way back for Marcus Rashford at Man Utd. I don’t think he wants to," Sheringham said, as per Football365.
"I look at the body language he giving off at Villa, and it’s like he couldn’t be any happier to be further away from Manchester United if he tried, to be honest. I think that’s the vibe.
