Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has suggested that Lyle Foster will not be able to play for Bafana Bafana at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Check Out: Foster Returns To Action With Burnley
The 23-year-old recently returned to action for Burnley, coming off the bench in their 2-0 Premier League defeat to Everton this past weekend.
Foster had missed his team's seven league matches prior to his appearance at Turf Moor on Saturday due to mental health issues.
His return to the Clarets' matchday squad came as a surprise, with Kompany later stating specialists believed the forward being around his teammates and in his natural environment playing football would be beneficial for him.
In quotes carried by the Burnley Express, though, the Belgian tactician says the "medical advice" they are getting is that Foster will not be able to join his international colleagues for the tournament in Ivory Coast next month.
"It's not even my decision, it's not up to me. He just can't. It's the medical advice we're getting at the moment," he said.
"The conflict, of course, is that he loves to play for his country. Even from my side, the AFCON is a big trophy, it's a big competition.
"It's important for me as an African coach to support the competition, but it's not up to me. I just relay.
"We've done everything for the human being to this point, there's no reason to change all of a sudden now."
