The home side maintained their unbeaten streak in LaLiga when they drew 2-2 with their rivals, despite Ernesto Valverde's side going down to 10 men just before the break.
Spanish midfielder-turned-defender Roberto was sent off for punching Marcelo in the face seconds before the half-time whistle blew, with replays showing the referee's decision to be correct.
According to Marca, just before the teams ran out for the second half, Barca defender Gerard Pique walked up to Nacho Fernandez in the tunnel to lament Roberto's sending-off.
Nacho, visibly annoyed by Pique's comments, responded by insisting these things have happened many times to Real in the past.
"How can you complain, if they have already dismissed us 17 times already?" he asked, according to Marca.
It has been claimed that Sergio Ramos surprisingly played peacemaker before the two teams ran out for the second half, which saw plenty more drama.
Messi scored to put to Barca 2-1 ahead 52 minutes into the match, but his goal was cancelled out when Gareth Bale successfully wrapped his left foot around the ball from outside the box with just 18 minutes remaining.
'I Wish We Could Erase Ronaldo'
The fiery clash between Spain's two biggest teams saw eight yellow cards, along with the aforementioned red card, being shown.
