Copa America Quarterfinal Report: Brazil (3) 0-0 (4) Paraguay 27 June 2015

Copa America Quarterfinal Report: Brazil (3) 0-0 (4) Paraguay 27 June 2015
Copa America - Quarterfinals   Result: Brazil (3) 0-0 (4) Paraguay   Date: 27 June 2015   Venue: Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo   Brazil were eliminated from the Copa America after losing 4-3 on penalties to Paraguay on Saturday night.   Robinho maintained his spot in the Brazil line-up ahead of Diego Tardelli, while Roberto Firmino continued to lead the line for Dunga's side.   The Brazilians could have went ahead as early as the first minute but Philppe Coutino's stinging effort from distance was tipped over by Justo Villar.   Dunga's men eventually broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Dani Alves picked out Robinho in the six-yard area for the easiest of tap-ins.   Paraguay went close to leveling matters with their first chance in the 34th minute when Roque Santa Cruz drilled low effort just wide of Jefferson's upright from 20-yards out.   That was as good as it got as far as chances were concerned in the opening 45 minutes, as Selecao went into the break with a one-goal advantage.   Paraguay nearly leveled matters 10 minutes after the halftime break but Nelson Valdez's towering header sailed inches over the crossbar.   Jefferson came to Brazil's rescue in the 61st minute, as the Brazilian shot-stopper pulled off a fine save to keep out Paulo Da Silva's glancing header.   Paraguay eventually leveled matters in the 71st minute when Derlis Gonzalez converted a penalty, after Thiago Silva was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.   However, neither side could find a winning goal in the remaining 20 minutes of the second half and the game was to be decided a by a penalty shoot-out.   And it was the Paraguayans who held their nerve, with Gonzalez slotting home the winning penalty to send his side into the final four.   Paraguay will now meet Argentina the semi-finals.
