Chile sent nine-man Uruguay packing from the Copa America on Thursday morning, thanks to a Mauricio Isla strike that saw them advance to the semi-finals.
The tournament hosts started the game with pace in attack, with an early Eduardo Vargas attempt going over the bar.
Charles Aranguiz almost found the opener in the 26th minute, but the Chilean's effort fell straight into the arms of Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera.
Another effort came from Chile's bad-boy, Arturo Vidal, in the 37th minute, but his long-rang shot was also dealt with easily by the Uruguay shot-stopper.
Despite the dominance from the host nation, the sides went in 0-0 at the break.
The second-half started similar to the first, with Chile continuing their dominance, although they were struggling to find the breakthrough.
In the 51st minute, Edinson Cavani struck a great volley that flew just inches over the bar.
The two sides enjoyed a chance each in the minutes that followed, with efforts from Marcelo Diaz and Diego Rolan unable to trouble the goalkeepers.
The game took a turn for the worst in the 63rd minute, when Cavani received a second yellow for what seemed to be a slap on his opponent, though replays suggested that there was not much in it despite a dramatic reaction from his opponent.
Chile's dominance finally paid off in the 82nd minute after Mauricio Isla found the net to put the host nation ahead.
Another player was sent off for Uruguay, when in the 90th minute Jorge Fucile received his second yellow for a late tackle which ended in minutes arguing and shouting at the referee by the defending champions.
Chile will now meet the winner of Peru against Bolivia in the semi-final.
