It was confirmed a while ago that Selecao captain Neymar would not be allowed to play in both the 2016 Olympics and Copa America by his club FC Barcelona, and as a consequence, he was not part of Dunga's squad, which was announced on Friday.

In addition, the 52-year-old coach also snubbed Real Madrid left back Marcelo, as well as Paris Saint-Germain's centre-back pairing of Thiago Silva and David Luiz.

Silva has not featured for Brazil since last year's Copa America, but Luiz had played an important role in Dunga's recent teams.

The Selecao coach will eventually cut the 40-man squad down to 23 players, who will represent the country at the Copa America Centenario – the tournament's 100-year anniversary.

Here is Brazil's 40-man squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Internacional), Diego Alves (Valencia), Ederson (Benfica), Marcelo Grohe (Gremio)

Defenders: Dani Alves (Barcelona), Rodrigo Caio (Sao Paulo), Fabinho (Monaco), Fagner (Corinthians), Gil (Shandong Luneng), Jemerson (Monaco), Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain), Miranda (Inter Milan), Gabriel Paulista (Arsenal), Alex Sandro (Juventus), Douglas Santos (Atletico Mineiro)

Midfielders: Rafinha Alcantara (Barcelona), Felipe Anderson (Lazio), Renato Augusto (Beijing Guoan), Casemiro (Real Madrid), Douglas Costa (Bayern Munich), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Elias (Corinthians), Fernandinho (Manchester City), Paulo Henrique Ganso (Sao Paulo), Luiz Gustavo (Wolfsburg), Kaka (Orlando City), Lucas Lima (Santos), Lucas Moura (Paris Saint-Germain), Oscar (Chelsea), Walace (Gremio), Willian (Chelsea)

Forwards: Roberto Firmino (Liverpool), Gabriel (Santos), Hulk (Zenit St Petersburg), Gabriel Jesus (Palmeiras), Jonas (Benfica), Luan (Gremio), Ricardo Oliveira (Santos), Alex Teixeira (Jiangsu Suning)
