The 27-year-old admitted that he would swap all his club trophies for winning the World Cup, but revealed that lifting the Champions League trophy was his happiest moment so far.
"Having won the Champions League was the best thing that happened to me at club level, the best thing in my life," he told Copa America's official website.
"But winning something with Argentina would be even more special.
"I would swap all that I have won with my clubs to win something with the national team.
"There can be nothing more special than that. We were just a step away and we felt it was ours."
Di Maria then explained how proud he is of reaching the World Cup final with Argentina and that he hasn't given up on the dream of winning the title.
"My happiest moment with Argentine was reaching the World Cup final last year in Brazil. It is the most special thing from my national team career," he added.
"We weren't able to win it, but we gave everything on the pitch and we made history. We took Argentina back to a World Cup final.
"We always said we wanted to become legends and we weren't able to achieve that, but there is still a lot of time left. We have the chance to put that right."
