English League Cup Report: Burton Albion 0-5 Liverpool 23 August 2016

English League Cup Result: Burton Albion 0-5 Liverpool Date: 23 August 2016 Venue: Pirelli Stadium Liverpool rifled home five goals on Tuesday to shrug off Burton Albion 5-0 in the English League Cup. The first real chance of the clash came in the seventh minute when Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane played Divock Origi through, but his effort on goal was easily stopped. Origi redeemed himself only eight minutes later as he netted the opening goal for the Reds. James Milner's deep cross found Mane who squared for Origi to flick home the finish. It could have been a two-goal cushion for Liverpool when Jordan Henderson sent a threatening cross towards Adam Lallana but he failed to make contact when he only needed to beat the goalkeeper. However, the visitors found their second strike in the 22nd minute to take control of the tie. Nathaniel Clyne produced the assist with a terrific cross that Firmino headed home. The clash calmed down towards the break and Jurgen Klopp's men took their 2-0 lead into the dressing room. Albion looked better after the interval but it was their Premier League opponents who netted the third. Just past the hour mark Emre Can flicked the ball towards the far corner of the hosts' goal and bounced over the line via Tom Naylor's back. The result was put beyond all doubt in the 78th minute when Milner set up Daniel Sturridge who had a straight forward tap-in for the 4-0 scoreline. Five minutes later the striker completed his brace with a cool finish for a 5-0 win over their hosts.
