English Football League Cup Report: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur 25 October 2016

English Football League Cup Result: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Date: 25 October 2016 Venue: Anfield Liverpool edged out Tottenham 2-1 in their English Football League Cup clash on Tuesday night. Jurgen Klopp's charges wasted little time in taking the lead as they made it 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. Georges-Kevin N'Koudou gave the ball away in a dangerous area which resulted in a deflected cross being steered home by Daniel Sturridge from close range. The Liverpool striker had another chance to strike shortly after giving the hosts the lead, but his attempt was poor and went harmlessly into Michel Vorm's ready gloves. At the other end of the pitch Spurs had an opportunity of their own. Kieran Trippier produced the cross that picked out N'Koudou, but his volley was parried wide by Simon Mignolet. It was Sturridge in the thick of the action again just before the hour mark. Divock Origi drilled in a low cross and the England striker seemed to be unsighted as the ball struck his standing leg and he failed to slot it from close range. However, the forward made amends 10 minutes later as he increased Liverpool's lead to 2-0. Georginio Wijnaldum put Sturridge through with a great pass, and the striker guided the ball past Vorm. The visitors were back in the game shortly thereafter. Erik Lamela went down in the box after a clumsy tackle from Lucas Leiva, and Vincent Janssen converted the spot-kick, but the Reds held on for the victory.
