English Football League Cup Report: Liverpool 2-0 Leeds United 29 November 2016

English Football League Cup Result: Liverpool 2-0 Leeds United Date: 29 November 2016 Venue: Anfield Liverpool scored late into their clash with Leeds United to claim a 2-0 win and a spot in the English Football League Cup semi-finals. The clash was off to a scintillating start as Leeds almost took the lead inside three minutes. A diagonal ball over the top fell for Hadi Sacko who was through on goal, but Simon Mignolet spread himself to turn the shot behind. A brilliant piece of play from Liverpool almost produced the opener in the 11th minute. Emre Can pounced on a loose ball and picked out Divock Origi who dinked it towards Georginio Wijnaldum. However, his first-time volley was parried away by Marco Silvestri. Can came within inches of breaking the deadlock in the 32nd minute when he collected a poor back-pass and shot at goal, but his effort went just wide. Shortly after the half-time break Leeds came even closer to scoring. Kemar Roofe was teed up and he let rip with a shot from 20 yards, but saw it rattle the bar and stay out. A few minutes later it was the Reds who hit the woodwork. Wijnaldum latched onto Sadio Mane's through-ball before finding the post of Silvestri's goal. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 76th minute as Jurgen Klopp's men took the lead. Trent Arnold provided the cross and Origi was in position to poke the ball home. The result was put beyond all doubt only five minutes later as Liverpool netted their second. Wijnaldum set it up with a deft little flick towards Ben Woodburn who thumped it home from close range for his first goal for the club.
