Manchester United moved into the next round of the EFL Cup after beating Northampton 3-1 at Sixfields Stadium on Wednesday night.
United started very positively and made their early pressure tell with a goal from Michael Carrick in the 17th minute, 1-0.
The Red Devisl took their foot off the pedal after taking the lead and allowed the home side to come back into the game.
Northampton pushed forwarded and were rewarded for their efforts when the referee awarded them a penalty in the 42nd minute.
Alex Revell made no mistake from the spot to take his side into the break tied at 1-1.
The start of the second half saw Northampton seeing more of the ball and pushing forward in attack as they tried to find a goal.
United, though, sucked up the pressure and began taking control around the hour mark.
In the 68th minute Ander Herrera gave United the lead for the second time after a clinical finish after some good build-play from the Premiership side, 2-1.
The match was over as a contest in the 75th minute when Marcus Rashford scored United's third goal, 3-1.
Northampton tried to find their way back into the game, but United held on for a comfortable win.
