Everton move into the next round of the cup competition after second half goals from Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu saw them come from behind to beat Reading 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium.
A single goal from Benin international Rudy Gestede saw Aston Villa beat Birmingham 1-0 at Villa Park.
Stoke also won their Capital Cup One match by a single goal thanks to a Peter Crouch strike which saw them down Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage.
Hull City made the most of home ground advantage when a goal from David Meyler gave them a 1-0 win over Swansea at KC Stadium.
Two matches went into extra time after Leicester City versus West Ham United and Preston Versus Bournemouth ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
A goal in the 116th minute of the match from Andy King handed Leicester a 2-1 win over West Ham at the King Power Stadium.
The other match between Preston and Bournemouth went to penalties after 120 minutes of football ended 2-2. In the end Bournemouth ran out 3-2 winners in the penalty shoot-out.
